THE STORY OF RHACTUS

The word Rhactus was originally derived from the word Rhacotis. It was the name of the city on the northern coast of Egypt in Alexandria. Some classical sources in the Greco-Roman era suggest that Rhacotis was the name of Alexandria before it was invaded by Alexander the Great. Rhacotis was easily accessible to large ships as it was located west of Canopus, the ancient Egyptian coastal town located in the Nile Delta.

The Greek geographer Strabo described Rhacotis as the home of Egyptian sentinels guarding the Nile.

Influenced by the story of Rhacotis, we decided to modernize the name to Rhactus.

From here, we decided to be the very first – and till this moment the only – hotel that serves businesses in El-Alamein.
